After a great day 1, I woke up early and headed down to the beach to catch the local beach sunrise in Penang. My first priority was to try and find something interesting to place in foreground so I spotted some rocks from the balcony of the hotel and decided to navigate towards those. I Shot this with my 5D mark II with a 17-40mm @ 22mm, f11, 1/100 and ISO 400. I actually took this on the way to the location so I was shooting hand held and had a higher ISO. Once I got settled I changed to lower ISO and longer shutter speed, but I think I made it work. The mix of the different colours work for me, you also get these reflected in the water in the middle which draws you into the horizon.
My 2nd Image for day 2 was again going for something a little different. I shot this with my 70-300 lens @ 150mm, f11, 1/100 ISO 400. I also wanted to portray a Malaysian feel for the shot, which I think I managed to get across, but please let me know if you get that feel. Your comments are much appreciated. It means alot to me to know that people are reading my blogs as I plan to make it a more permanent part of my weekly routine and as the first place to get a look at my latest shots from the week.
The final shot I am going to show you is a silouette of a boat with the beautiful golden sunset behind. I shot this with my 100mm f2, @ f8, 1/400 and ISO 100, I think these settings are pretty much spot on, if anything maybe higher ISO just to get a faster shutter speed. I shot alot of different compostions of this image but decided on the boat and the sun slightly to the right with the rope just heading off to the left of the screen. I changed my white blance for this as I wanted to get a totally different feel to my first image. Please also note you can click on all images to view them in full size. For day 3 we are off to the zoo in Tai Ping and a few other places which is very exciting. That's me for the day. I hope you enjoyed the update and look forward to tomorrow's images.
