At this stage of the trip I was starting to forget what day it was and forgetting about all the work which was waiting for me at home which was nice. I set my alarm for 5am and was delighted to see a nice sunrise in the makings. The interesting thing about this shot for most people is the colour and they think its photo shopped! Well in fact its not this was pretty much out of camera. But what i did do is have custom white balance and picture settings. Which I think is what sets me apart in alot of my photography settings on the 5D mark II
with the 17-400mm at 17mm are f18 with a 30sec shutter speed to get the nice silky water and ISO100. I also decided to crop this one as the added sky and sand didnt really add anything to the picture. I am sure I will go through and re edit some of the shots from that morning when I get back to my main computer. This next shot was again while in a moving boat we had just spent the rest of the morning snorkeling and this was in the process of moving from one spot to the next. Setting where as you can guess at the exact opposite end of the scale as my shots in the morning. Still with the 17-40 at 17mm was at f6.3 at 1/1000 and ISO 640. I also as i generally do but have failed to mention thus far have a CPL filter on this gives me the advantage of controlling the amount of reflection on the water and to a extent the blues in the sky. I would say for most people getting into shooting landscapes that this is a essential tool. A quick word about what I do in post production as I have had a few people ask me this. With this sort of image there are a few import things todo and they are pretty much all in camera raw so if you are not shooting in RAW then do yourself a favor and start now. I shot in raw and small jpeg. So I decreased the highlights added contract, vibrance and clarity. That is it for today's blog I hope you enjoyed again feel free to give any feedback or ask any questions or even just let me know that you are reading. I will be getting up to have another go at the sunrise tomorrow chat to you then.
